Blackpool Beach

The Beach in Blackpool is a mere 150 metres from the front door of the New Kent B&B hotel and with an invigorating breeze that comes from the sea straight to our front door I must ask “Is there a more pleasant place for me to live?” Or for you to stay? Well possibly as Blackpool is a fantastic place for all the family and whether it is for the quiet of the North Shore, the noise, partying and excitement of the South and Central shores of Blackpool there is definitely something for all.

Golen Sands await you all

Golden Sands await you all....

Although it is stated that the Blackpool Illuminations only stretch for 6 miles along the promenade Blackpool beach covers around 9 to 10 miles of the coast line which many consider to be Blackpool albeit this includes Blackpool, Lytham, Bispham and Cleveleys leading up to Fleetwood.

Taking a stroll, a leisurely walk and even something a little more energetic like running or cycling the Beack in Blackpool attracts them all.

The George Formby Society congregates in Blackpool four times a year in remembrance of a British Icon of yester- year and a man who sang cheeky songs while playing his Ukulele, looking boyish, mischievous and unfazed. A Lancashire Lad born and bred George was a Black and White TV star who wowed millions across the world. George himself played Blackpool and below is his song “With me little Stick of Blackpool Rock.”

The New Kent Hotel would like to offer a very warm welcome to visitors from the George Formby Society. In 2008 we had the great pleasure in accommodating a few happy families visiting Blackpool for this event. Please bring your favorite DVDs and enjoy them in our warm spacious lounge on our 32″ Plasma TV. The lounge is fully licensed serving sandwiches, snacks, hot and cold drinks for all the family.

I personally remember watching George Formby films with my Nanny Smith when I was a small boy as I think he was one of the biggest stars during my Nanny Smith’s younger days. My favorite song is “When I am cleaning windows” which always brings back memories I have of my childhood and of my Mothers Mum me Nan.

The New Kent Blackpool would be delighted to be the hosts of any George Formby conference goers and welcome anybody who can play a Ukulele.

Pet Shop Boys – Chris Lowe from Blackpool

Brit Awards Winner 2009

Chris lowe was born and raised in Blackpool before going on to conquer the world with Neil Tennant as one of the pop duo “The Pet Shop Boys.” To say the Pet Shop Boys are idols of mine is an understatement indeed, as a teenager I grew up listen to their music and dreaming of following in their foot steps to fame and fortune.

To see them perform at the Brits and receive an award was a fantastic and nerve tingling experience that not many pop groups or bands have on me these days. Performing with Brandon Flowers (The Killers) and Lady GaGa it was quite a performance to remember!

Please view their performance below and if you do not have a CD of them in your car ‘Go get one?’

Chris in his act reminisces about his up bringing in Blackpool which I do feel shows his respect and love of his home town a town that he describes like himself “Fun loving and exciting.”

Blackpool Hotels

Our Blackpool Hotel was originally built in 1919 and was a purpose built Guest House. Built over three floors the New Kent Hotel has now been welcoming guests for 90 years.

Hotels in Blackpool have not always been as prosperous as one would think and in the early 1960′ѕ Blackpool went into decline, аѕ did all British holiday resorts. Just аѕ cheap rail travel brought the crowds to Blackpool in its heyday so cheap air flights took them to the sunny beaches of the Mediterranean coast and their more dependable weather. However decline is а relative concept and Blackpool today still attracts around ten million people every year and many supposedly flourishing resorts would consider themselves extremely fortunate to have much large numbers of visitors.

But perhaps Blackpool is most famous of all for its spectacular Illuminations which provide Autumn holiday visitors with а dazzling display along much of the promenade. The town has а wide variety of accommodation suitable for every requirement, including hotels in Blackpool, guest houses, bed and breakfast accommodation and self catering holiday flats; it has been ѕаid that Blаckpool hаѕ more than two thouѕаnd holiday eѕtаbliѕhmentѕ of vаriouѕ kindѕ. Аt the lаѕt count the figure wаѕ two thouѕаnd ѕix hundred аnd twenty one holiday unitѕ, contаining over ninety thouѕаnd five hundred holiday bedѕ.

In fаct it iѕ clаimed that the town hаѕ more holiday аccommodаtion than the whole of Portugal! With аn eѕtimаted ten million viѕitorѕ аnnuаlly, it iѕ believed that Blаckpool receiveѕ а greater income from tourism than Greece аnd the Greek iѕlаndѕ put together. Tourism in Blаckpool bringѕ а totаl revenue of five hundred аnd forty five million poundѕ into the reѕort.

Blackpool Pleasure Beach

The Pleasure Beach Blackpool is Europe’s number one tourist attraction with estimated visitor numbers of around 7 million per year. Blackpool Pleasure Beach was established in 1896 by Alderman William George Bean in his bid to develop in his words:

One of our guests enjoying a day out at Blackpool Pleasure Beach

One of our guests enjoying a day out at Blackpool Pleasure Beach

“An American Style Amusement Park where the fundamental principle of which is to make adults feel like children again and to inspire gaiety of a primarily innocent character.”

Today I do believe that this dream is very much alive and kicking as I know from every visit to the Pleasure Beach that my family has a great time.

To visit the Pleasure Beach from The New Kent B&B Hotel just hop on the Tram at the end of the road and enjoy the 20 minute tram ride which goes all along the front promenade. Tram Time Table
