Europe largest Elvis Presley contest is coming to Blackpool 8th 9th 10th January 2010!

Elvis Presley possibly the most influential entertainer that the world has ever seen has increased in popularity even in the time of death. Sadly passing away in 1977, Elvis has still entertained the world through the millions of impersonators that sing and mimic the American born singers huge array of songs.

My personal favorite song of Elvis is ‘Always on my Mind’ which was covered back in 1987 by the Pet Shop Boys of all people and became their best selling single. So to remind ourselves of the original here it is:

The Elvis contest and convention is the largest one ever held in Europe and will attract thousands of impersonators from around the world who will watch the three stages of heats and then witness the crowning of Europe’s best Tribute to Elvis.

The contest will hosted at the Norbreck Castle Hotel Blackpool, which is a mere two miles from us in the North Shore Blackpool, either a brisk stroll for 20 minutes or a 2 minute taxi ride. (Remember it is January!)

One must remember that when Elvis first came on the music scene he not only sang but moved his body in a way that was deemed rude and offensive! Well as a pioneer Elvis gigged, moved and sang with many mixed musical tastes (which also shocked America) incorporating many Afro American musical tastes, Blues mainly and blended his unique legacy that has been left us today.

One can only imagine how long Elvis will continue to gain new fans around the world however for now lets not imagine but enjoy the last song I have placed on here or all our enjoyments.

Back in the day when Blackpool was seen as the place to be and rich people throughout the UK sort land and property companies did not produce lots and mass produce housing. The richer people of the UK bought land from the council and built there own homes and due to this I would say Blackpool has some of the most sturdy and well built houses throughout the UK.

The New Kent B&B Hotel was an actual purpose built Guest house and has never been used just as a family home. The property has developed over the years however all rooms are now en-suite except room one. (A smaller double bed in a box room)

As I write Michael is off watching the beautiful Blackpool sunset and as I have witnessed many times every day is magnificent and always different. A site many people suggest they “never get tired of seeing.”

On Saturday 21st March and Michael and Maria departed, a quite a sad moment as we made some real friends. Maria and I shared a couple of bottles of fine red wine last night whilst we had a game of Scrabble and to rub it in I won scoring 210 points!

The Aussie Globetrotters are possibly far away from Blackpool now and enjoying the beautiful sights of the Lake District and we at the New Kent B&B Hotel in Blackpool are possibly a mere distant and fond memory.

The Blackpool Illuminations  2010 will be switched on September 3rd and will run until November 7th.

Blackpool’s Illuminations are switched on annually at the start of September and continue, nightly, until the first week of November. The illuminations consist of many a glowing tableau, large illuminated models, and laser lights. Fibre optics and computer control have brought a new dimension to Britain’s biggest tourist attraction. The illuminated displays stretch along the sea front from Starr Gate to Bispham. The sea front is lit up like a Belicia beacon with the view of the lights being an array of colours that can be seen afar.

Blackpool has a wonderful International firework display every year that has attracted some fierce competition from numerous international competitors. The International firework display takes place on the first weeks of the Illuminations so to book early as rooms get snapped up very quickly.
