Royal Variety Show Blackpool

The Royal Variety Show this year will be held in Blackpool at the world famous ‘Winter Gardens.’ The show will take place on Monday 7th December in front of Her Majesty the Queen with the only confirmed Guest Stars being ‘Diversity’ the dance group who spectacularly won the 2009 ‘Britains Got Talent’

The last time the Royal Variet Performance was in Blackpool was way back in 1955 when performing were George Formby, Morcombe and Wise along with Arthur Askey.

Blackpool has come along way since those days however still offers some of the best facilities to all superstars that will be performing and for the most important people. (The audience) Blackpool must be the best family location in Britain. Great valuse accommodation, the World famous Pleasure Beach Resort, miles and miles of beautiful sandy Beaches (however in December it will be a little chilly)

This years show will be screened on ITV and promised that the show will be the best ever remain to be seen however with Diversity dancing and the hyped up guest list I am sure we will not be disappointed.  To ensure you get the hotel of your choice book early to avoid disappointment.

The George Formby Society congregates in Blackpool four times a year in remembrance of a British Icon of yester- year and a man who sang cheeky songs while playing his Ukulele, looking boyish, mischievous and unfazed. A Lancashire Lad born and bred George was a Black and White TV star who wowed millions across the world. George himself played Blackpool and below is his song “With me little Stick of Blackpool Rock.”

The New Kent Hotel would like to offer a very warm welcome to visitors from the George Formby Society. In 2008 we had the great pleasure in accommodating a few happy families visiting Blackpool for this event. Please bring your favorite DVDs and enjoy them in our warm spacious lounge on our 32″ Plasma TV. The lounge is fully licensed serving sandwiches, snacks, hot and cold drinks for all the family.

I personally remember watching George Formby films with my Nanny Smith when I was a small boy as I think he was one of the biggest stars during my Nanny Smith’s younger days. My favorite song is “When I am cleaning windows” which always brings back memories I have of my childhood and of my Mothers Mum me Nan.

The New Kent Blackpool would be delighted to be the hosts of any George Formby conference goers and welcome anybody who can play a Ukulele.

Pet Shop Boys – Chris Lowe from Blackpool

Brit Awards Winner 2009

Chris lowe was born and raised in Blackpool before going on to conquer the world with Neil Tennant as one of the pop duo “The Pet Shop Boys.” To say the Pet Shop Boys are idols of mine is an understatement indeed, as a teenager I grew up listen to their music and dreaming of following in their foot steps to fame and fortune.

To see them perform at the Brits and receive an award was a fantastic and nerve tingling experience that not many pop groups or bands have on me these days. Performing with Brandon Flowers (The Killers) and Lady GaGa it was quite a performance to remember!

Please view their performance below and if you do not have a CD of them in your car ‘Go get one?’

Chris in his act reminisces about his up bringing in Blackpool which I do feel shows his respect and love of his home town a town that he describes like himself “Fun loving and exciting.”

Hotels in Blackpool

Blackpool hotels vary in many ways, from the small family owned Bed and Breakfast (B&B) guest house to the more commercially conglomerate run hotels like the Hilton Hotel and travel lodges that are springing up every where.

So how does one choose whether to stay in a B&B or a more commercial establishment? Blackpool has been built its reputation on a warm friendly welcome, traditional home cooked cuisine from people who actually own and operate the B&B hotels themselves. This I do believe gives the Blackpool B&B hotelier a massive advantage over any commercially run business, it is more personal and satisfying.

Our Blackpool B&B Hotel versus a Travel lodge?

There are many advantages in staying in our hotel or other local B&B’s in the North Shore rather than any sort of travel lodge or travel Inn. Not all hotels are the same however we feel our Blackpool Hotel out performs a travel lodge or Inn by the following reasons:

Hospitality
Warmth
Friendliness
Cleanliness

A fresh and hearty breakfast (included in the room rate)
A more welcoming price that is definitely Value for money
FREE Internet access

How do we know we are offering our service far better than a Globalized Conglomerate are able? Well it is not everyday you will see the owner of the company (ME) being supervised by the MD’s (my mother and wife!). One can not say that about any conglomerate that I have ever known….

Our rooms are clean, fresh, compact (you could not really have a game of football with your mate using our pillows) and they are very homely and relaxing.

Punk Festival Blackpool – Rebellion

The Punk Rebellion Festival Blackpool this year takes place 5th August 2009 – 8th August 2010.

Talk about letting your hair down and relaxing well the Punk Festival will be back again this year and many will be doing exactly the opposite. Parents have always told us that in our day “We would never do that” well the parents of today and possibly a few Grand parents certainly DID! Spikey hair, ripped clothes and Pogoing! today’s youth are quite tame in comparison possibly.

Sticking two fingers up at society and the establishment Punk was an urban street culture that was denounced by the press and many of the peers at the time. However strangely enough Punk changed the face of music like no other.

To inquire about tickets for this event please visit the Punk Rebellion website or if you wish to just browse available tickets please use our Ticket Master search below.
